I’ve been engaged for twelve days

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

And we have a date set, the location and the deposit down, caterer, our photographer, and now…a wedding dress!!

I had no idea that this whole weddin’ plannin’ stuff was so INVOLVED with lots of DECISIONS.

I had already decided that I would say yes if Scott asked me to marry him, because we were talking about marriage, we knew this was right. And after so much in our lives, and so much hesitancy to get married again on both our parts, it’s really amazing to just say, “My god, I love this person so much and I am already his partner, of course we should signify that with a ceremony of something.” There’s no pressure, no other influences, just happy. I just didn’t know last weekend was going to be the weekend he proposed.

So when he suggested we go to Memphis for the weekend, I was all in. It’s something we usually do several times a year and we love it there. He said, let’s get the Peabody Hotel…great! lets! And then we drive to Memphis, check in, and chill out a bit in our room, and then he says, “So, I got you a present.”

I’m like, “Oh! That’s so nice!” And I’m thinking, awww, he brought me our favorite candy bar.

Instead it was a ring. A GORGEOUS ring with super sparkly pavé diamonds on either side of a beautiful solitaire that suited me perfectly. And a loving, handsome man asking me to marry him. Yes!

My second decision was that I was absolutely going to wear a fascinator. Oh yes I am. My new girl child, his daughter, already has hers picked out :)

Next came all the rest. Holy moly, we have to think of so many details for a SMALL wedding. I haven’t even considered them all and I’m overwhelmed. But it’s a pretty happy problem to have, no?

“Tinkerbell” Movie Gets Thumbs up from Teenage Boys

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Why yes, my two teenage boys are watching “Tinkerbell” on their own, no sisters around. They actually are enjoying themselves here! They’re even debating the way fairies are made (baby giggles) and the history of Tinkerbell’s life. They have deemed that Wendy is a boring character, but the fairies DO something and are interesting.

I love this, that they don’t even think not to watch it here. Now at their dad’s, they’d be ridiculed because he’s a dick like that sometimes. But Daniel says he gets around this by asking his six year old sister, “Hey, wanna watch “Tinkerbell”? He looks like an amazing big brother (he is), and gets to get in his happy, pretty cartoon fix.

I love mothering boys.

Newsy!

JAZZ HANDS ALL AROUND!!

Anne’s Baby!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Raquita took newborn shots of Anne’s new baby, Miles, and oh mah god people. Gorgeous. I mean, the baby is gorgeous (just look at his toes sticking out!), but Raquita’s images of him are stunning. She says more of him are going up tomorrow. Yay!

Men:Default; Women:Other

I don’t need to look hard to find sexist shit to fill my day, but sometimes it’s just delivered to my mailbox for me.

I got a(nother) letter from Cambridge Who’s Who saying that WOOT! You are appointed as a candidate to the Cambridge Who’s Who Registry Among Executive and Professional Women. See that, only among the women. I know this is a scam, since to get on the registry that will do you no good, you have to cough up hundreds of dollars.

But what strikes me is that when you google this, you quickly realize that men get on the Cambridge Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals. Not Executive and Professional Men…no, no, silly, just Executives and Professionals.

Because executives and professionals are by default, male. They don’t need a special category like us womens do, what with us being all cute by trying to work.
