A friend of mine had me make a bracelet for her little son whose favorite colors are pink and purple. I included a purple dinosaur and pink and purple swirly beads I made out of polymer clay, and he loves it.
My friend reports that not only can she not find jewelry for small boys, which is sad because many little children love jewelry and want to have their own (yes, boys, too), but she has a hard time finding pink and purple items for him. But they’re good colors! They look good on/with lots of people! They are colors of nature, and so cheerful!
That what Brett believes, that the “girl” colors are so cheerful and wonderful and the “boy” colors are drab. He is not a drab person, he says!
It doesn’t hurt to have a historian, feminist mama on your side either.
You are so right, Sara. It IS hard to find jewelry for boys that isn’t a skull or something violent. Brett and Daniel both have always put shimmery lotions on themselves, wanted to wear necklaces or bracelets, and just embellish themselves anyway they see fit. It’s frustrating. Same for clothes, drab, drab, drab, dark, dark, dark.

I’m still laughing about the Leon and Santa letter! The bikes are nice. If it’s pink and he likes it, more power to him. They are two very cool kids!
