Yeah, I still remember not being able to chew gum for a year. Although it seems like I sometimes cheated with freedent because it never stuck. Caramels and whole apples were a no-no though. But I have a pretty set of teeth - I hear that from dentists - to show for it. Oh, that and wearing my retainer religiously! My mom worked for my dentist so she really put the fear of god in me about wearing my retainer!
When my Dan was your Daniel’s age & got his braces, he never had a problem eating anything. Corn-on-the-cob? check. Spare ribs? check. He never was much of a gum chewer or hard candy eater to begin with, so that wasn’t an issue. We did get him a Waterpik and one of those fancy-schmancy Braun toothbrushes. His teeth are gorgeous, worth every penny & every tear he shed with the tightening of the wires & putting the wax crap on….
