Does it enrage you that your nipples are just sitting there, mocking you with their vestigiality?
Once upon a time I was a breastfeeding mother. I was a tandem breastfeeder for a bit because Daniel would have nursed until tomorrow I had never had a little brother get in his way, taking up all that good lap space.
And I nursed in public, where people actually told me to try HARDER to cover up my baby with that hot, hot blanket he was pulling down at 2 days old. Obviously I got over that pretty quickly, since Daniel’s head turned red every time he nursed and he started a wee little baby sweat. I nursed at my in laws houses where I was completely blasted to the point of either never going there or removing me and the baby to another room (where we breathed a sigh of relief and napped through Christmas). I nursed Brett in front of their father’s friend who thought that was probably the hottest thing he ever saw…and uh, told me.
I nursed in the mall, in the car, in the restaurant, and anywhere my babies wanted to because HELLO, babies scream when they are not fed.
Oh, Alice Bradley. You are not the first, but I like what you say. Thank you.

I wasn’t able to breastfeed…The biggest disappointment of motherhood for me.

My sister wasn’t either, not for long. It was so hard for her, too. On the other hand, her daughter is gorgeous, amazing, brilliant, and thankfully.

Hi! First time poster (I think) and first time visitor (I think).
Followed the link from St Louis bloggers.
I had to comment because when we had our daughters, my wife ALSO nursed them just anywhere. There was no real covering with a blanket or anything. She was so casual about it that no one really ever even knew, I don’t think.
My favorite was one day we were shopping at Target and had split up looking for different things. When I found her again, she was walking down an aisle, holding our daughter. It wasn’t until I was talking to her for awhile that I noticed she was nursing.
Yep, she was just walking around Target, holding the kid and nursing.
I saw nothing wrong with it, myself.

Welcome, Gregg! Thanks for stopping by.
Exactly, 99% not a soul noticed. Most women just go unnoticed.

Ahhh, the sound of controversies to come. I do not look forward to this.

I was nursing Will on the beach, in a little wind-tent-thingy… Some 70-ish year old man came over & told me to stop. He found it “offensive” that I was feeding my baby in public.
At the same time, Maggie was sitting in her beach chair eating a PB&J… I asked him if that was offensive, of course, he replied, NO.
So, what’s the difference? I asked… My children are eating. I find it offensive when grown people chew with their mouths open or talk with their mouths full. Do I go up to complete strangers and ask them to use their manners?
No, I do not.

I breastfed the kid, everywhere, in public, around my FIL, around my dad, my brothers, in my office, everyplace, until she was nearly three. No one (except my redneck brother) ever said a word to me; but I do look kind of fierce. My brother and I tangled a few times.
It’s the women who object to women breastfeeding in public who appall me. WTF?

This whole controversy continues to enrage me, too. (sigh) I wish it would dry up.
We should all be very, very happy whenever any baby gets fed. Not all of them are so lucky.

Ok that last comment from the name “Father and daugher fucking” is just icking me out. Not the comment but the name. Ewww, ewww, EWWWW!
And yes, I don’t really get what the big deal is.
I had never liked my boobs/body until I breastfed. Something about the fact that my body was actually doing something GOOD for another person…That was a wonderful thing to me. I treat it much kinder now. (Although it still does piss me off from time to time…)

i am still nursing my nearly 2 year old…any where she wants. she is not subtle about wanting it or doing it. i live in a hick town and we have had some rude comments but also have had some great supporters. how sad is it in 2007 that breastfeeding is still an issue???? isn’t there a war or something going on??
