Amalah just posted a sweet post regarding those of us who just knew we had to have a girl but who then had boys.
People, no one told me either but boy children are the greatest ever.
Don’t get me wrong, my niece slays me with her wit and quirk and talky speech hilariousness. But don’t knock little boys.
Just tonight I had my children home on a rare Friday night (competition with Nana and Daddy is fierce). I wanted a fun night for once. I usually get the weekday nights when 7:30* is the bedtime and Mommy has work to do so could you please just take your damn shower already for the love of god stop hitting your brother.
Um.
Oh yes, fun night. I took the boys to get Daniel’s hair cut (not fun, I know, shut up) where I tried very hard not to look at his disgusting hair from a morning or four where he thought it would be FINE to just shower and not actually wash his hair. We then went to dinner where we had fun because I mostly shut up about Daniel’s habit of chewing with his mouth open, elbows on the table, shoveling bite after bite in this gaping maw before even chewing the first bite.
He’s 12. Have I mentioned that 12 is kind of gross?
But fun! We were going to have fun! And nitpicky Mommy is not fun. So she politely said a thing or three and then shut up.
We then did the grand act of fun time, we went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the theatre. Super good! Go see it! Fuck the reviews, we liked it! Great fun! Kids laughing and smiling!
And the best part of all…
At one point Daniel reaches over and pats my arm. Later, he holds my hand. He lets me snuggle him and kiss his temple.
Brett gets sleepy and climbs in my arms, puts his head on my shoulder, later he climbs in my lap.
Yes, ma’am, boy children are the greatest thing ever.

Have I talked about the early bedtimes around these parts?
