Damn Precious*

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I am busy licking my Hyundai. I love it. LOVE IT.

*Why yes, I DO love that Avril Lavigne song, “Girlfriend.”

**I am, in fact, thirteen.

***And I dress a little too much like the “girlfriend” Avril doesn’t like…sigh.

Hottie

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Brett rushes in, his little cheeks flushed and says, “Mommy, this is what you are!” as he points to his wrist.

Where I see one of these bracelety things:

It reads HOTTIE. My son called me a hottie.

Somebody call a therapist.

Top 100 Mom Blog.

I’m weirded out by this, because dude, this blog has gone a bit boring of late but I am #87 of the top 100 Mom Blogs.

I’m in amazing company, with Oh, the Joys and Melanie in Orygun. You two are both writers I adore and admire. (Still adore you!)

Well, fuck…I knew it was weird.

What’s Funnier?

Finding out the your 10 year old niece apparently knows how to “pop, lock, and drop it” like a pro?

Or having your 11 year old son demonstrate it for you?

Uh, Happy Easter!

Little Boys. And Ninja Turtles.

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Amalah just posted a sweet post regarding those of us who just knew we had to have a girl but who then had boys.

People, no one told me either but boy children are the greatest ever.

Don’t get me wrong, my niece slays me with her wit and quirk and talky speech hilariousness. But don’t knock little boys.

Just tonight I had my children home on a rare Friday night (competition with Nana and Daddy is fierce). I wanted a fun night for once. I usually get the weekday nights when 7:30* is the bedtime and Mommy has work to do so could you please just take your damn shower already for the love of god stop hitting your brother.

Um.

Oh yes, fun night. I took the boys to get Daniel’s hair cut (not fun, I know, shut up) where I tried very hard not to look at his disgusting hair from a morning or four where he thought it would be FINE to just shower and not actually wash his hair. We then went to dinner where we had fun because I mostly shut up about Daniel’s habit of chewing with his mouth open, elbows on the table, shoveling bite after bite in this gaping maw before even chewing the first bite.

He’s 12. Have I mentioned that 12 is kind of gross?

But fun! We were going to have fun! And nitpicky Mommy is not fun. So she politely said a thing or three and then shut up.

We then did the grand act of fun time, we went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the theatre. Super good! Go see it! Fuck the reviews, we liked it! Great fun! Kids laughing and smiling!

And the best part of all…

At one point Daniel reaches over and pats my arm. Later, he holds my hand. He lets me snuggle him and kiss his temple.

Brett gets sleepy and climbs in my arms, puts his head on my shoulder, later he climbs in my lap.

Yes, ma’am, boy children are the greatest thing ever.

Have I talked about the early bedtimes around these parts?
