Bad Mom Confession

Brett just asked me if I liked his friend, Jordan.

I said, “Sure, honey!”

But I don’t.

I do not like Jordan. That kid annoys the living hell out of me. He’s loud, obnoxious, has horrible manners, and he never stops screaming in a fake baby voice.

Yes, that’s right, I hate a ten-year-old kid.

I don’t like him either. For that matter, I don’t really like any of either boy’s friends. Does that make me a bad parent too?

You know, 10-year-old kids may be one of the most hated demographics in American society, and for good reason. This is totally normal. Just go to any mall and see the very, very unhappy moms with their 10-year-old kids and their 10-year-old friends. Enough said.

10 is the age where I sort of tune out on them. I’m totally rockin’ with the 5-10 yo demographic, but once they turn 10, well me no can do.

However, don’t feel bad about hating a kid. They are people, too and just like adults, there are some you’ll adore and others that will make your skin crawl.

I wouldn’t feel bad about not liking your son’s friend. You have mommy-radar… something may be off.

I on the other hand, feel horrible. I realized a couple of weeks ago that I don’t like my granddaughter. She’s five, prone to tempertantrums or tears depending on how she thinks she’ll get what she wants. Totally undisciplined and never picks up after herself. I blame her parents for being idiots.

Mag is too young to have annoying friends, but I’m sure there will a few later that I won’t like.
My first-born, however, I think he had 2 friends that I *did* like. DaBoy always picked the losers to hang out with.

hey - it happens. just cos they’re kids, doesn’t mean they’re all gorgeous. you get nice ones and nasty ones, just like grown ups!

I can completely understand this. THere’s a 4-year-old my son plays with who I really don’t like either.
