Yeah, I thought upskirt shots were way more 18th century — you know, Fragonard and all.
I love the full moon behind, well, the implied moon — well-timed, too, since there was a full moon last night. Very nice. What does the whole image look like? I’m always so amused by how you crop things.
For any image I use, I always try to link to the source in the footer. But the Web Gallery of Art always links to their main page, making it harder to find. However, I did learn their search results have a distinct link, like this one:
The SH header painting is the second one from the top, “Flora with Putti Strewing Flowers.”
As my friend Erika says, “Everybody loves putti.”
As for the moon, I never thought about that since the painting is a simulated tondo (a round painting) and so that’s the canvas and frame back there. Very fun to think of it as an implied full moon.
And yes, I totally thought I would have to go 18th century for the upskirt. But I try to put up stuff that less people have seen before, hence, no Fragonard’s “Swing,” even though I think it’s fabulous. It’s a fun one to present in a classroom. They think it looks so sweet!
All right, I am totally in love with cropping. Cropped, the circle absolutely looks like part of a full moon, I mean right down to the smudging to represent craters. Uncropped, yeah, it’s just a round picture. Whoa.
Yes, putti. Gotta love the putti.
The Swing is actually one of my all-time favorite pictures. I always identified with that girl (except I’m chestier, and no third party ever pulls my swing now that I’ve passed the age of seven). Ridiculously enough, the shoe-flying-off thing has just become increasingly apt, but for less than erotic, devil-may-care reasons, alas.
