It’s Gig Day, What Band T-shirt Are you Going to Wear?
It has happened.
Mike won a new job. A new job with great insurance, wonderful people, an upward ladder, better pay, a five-minute commute, and it’s at the same company where my sister works.
That five-minute commute means that Mike will drive six days of work to equal what he now drives in one day.
It’s a bittersweet deal for Mike. He loves his current job at his fabulous institution, but the pay is low, it’s a long commute, there’s no promotional ladder and he’s bored a lot of the time. The people he works with are fantastic. They care about him in a warm, nurturing way. But it was time to move on. When he told them about the new job, they were genuinely happy for him. Sad to lose him, but knew this was best for him. It’s hard to leave people like that.
You know what else the new job means? It means that our baby ticker has moved. Behold.

Someone teach me about preconception. Please?

Great news! I hope things begin to tangibly ease up for you real soon.
It sounds like Mike could even walk to work. I’m jealous. Walking to work is awesome because you arrive energized and happy every day, having been outside and gotten to participate in nature (even the nature of a populated neighborhood) and to some extent your community every day. I used to be able to walk to work, but then we moved, and even though my drive is only 15-20 minutes whereas my walk had been half an hour, it feels 15-20 minutes longer every time and lands me at work stressed and angry every day. Plus, it’s making me fatter when I’m not careful to scale back my caloric intake. (insert rueful grin here)
