WordPress Whore

Dear All,

Having been through a good and blah relationship with Blogger, followed by a short but slutty fling with TypePad, I am shamelessly whoring myself out to BlueHost and WordPress.

For those who are interested, I enjoyed the free Blogger but felt limited by its features. I loved TypePad until I realized that my barely-subdued control freak couldn’t make changes through code unless I paid for the Pro package.

So, welcome to BlueHost. I’m already hosted by BlueHost for another project (someday, I’ll unleash that shit on you), and for the $6.95 I’m already paying I found I could get up to 5 domains. That means this blog’s hosting is free. Free, bitches.

And, welcome to WordPress. This is a free platform. Free. I think it’s even more beautiful than TypePad and I have infinite modification control. They have a dizzying amount of templates and since you can alter your code, you can personalize your blog any way you want.

All in all, this entire beautiful thing is free. Except for the domain registration (which is also free if you sign up for BlueHost’s glorious $6.95 package).

I must give a special thank you to my geeky husband, Mike. I’ll be furiously blowing him later for all his help.

Soon to come are imported posts. At present you can view these at Evening Star.

Welcome to this version of how I prostitute myself to all that is free and holy. That is all.

Melissa

Nice site. Oh, I must have married the wrong woman as my wife doesn’t do that when I do the “geek work” for her. Mike is one lucky guy!! ;)

I am told I “owe” him three more payback sessions. One per hour worked. Ah well, seems fair enough. I need him for his code genius!

I’m thinking of using Bluehost for my website and blog - are they okay? How have you found them?

We’ve been using BlueHost for about six months. It’s wonderful! Now, I haven’t ever used anything else so I have nothing to compare it to but anything I’ve ever needed it has. You get 5 subdomains that you can use–I’m using one for this. I’ve got 2500 email accounts and 100 mailing lists, a couple different shopping carts and credit card processing, a chatroom, 1000 ftp accounts, easy integration with WordPress and other blogging software, hotlink protection, unlimited disk space, and a whole list of features that my husband loves but that I don’t know what they do.

Honestly, my favorite part is how easy it is to use and learn about. The support is good too. They’ve actually called me at home to see how I like it and how I’m doing. Not to sell me anything, not to push another feature on me, but to see if I need anything. I got a call once when I set it up and once when I set up this site. I don’t get spam from them.

Overall, we love BlueHost for their support, ease of use with other software, and the many useful features.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, just ask me!

My own blogging history mirrors yours. Started out w. Blogger (UGH!) & then spent a few yrs w. Typepad (pro acct.). When I got tired of spam & the fact that they were doing nothing about it I left for WP, where I’m much happier.

I do have to warn you about Bluehost though. So many bad things happened to my site when I was w. them I’d warn you to be on yr. guard. If you have too many outages & other technical shenanigans consider a better host. You pay more elsehwere but if you want hassle free site hosting it’s an investment worth making.

Hm, Richard. I’ve actually never had a problem with Bluehost but I will be on my guard about it now. I’d love to hear more about what happened on your site!
